Studio Update
Thursday March 8th
Yo dudes we are rolling along in the studio and things are going awesome. Since Weenie brought his video camera we've been recording a few things and we put together a little "webisode" to give you all a window into what's going on up here in Vancouver. Check it out...
In case you didn't catch it the title we've settled on for the new record is "Deliver Us," and the scheduled release date is July 10th. Devin himself will attest that "It's the crispiest, most savory Darkest Hour to date," so stay tuned for more progress updates. We're really doing this.
Oh PS we just added another date in April with Job For A Cowboy... Huntington, West Virginia! Come On Down!
First post-studio dates announced
Tuesday February 27th
Hey everybody. In case you haven't heard we are in Vancouver right now laying down tracks for the new record. We're really stoked with how things are coming along and we can't wait to get this finished up right so you can hear it. While we're here we're also planning our next moves for when we get back. We're going to start with a few shows close to home on the East Coast with our dudes Job for a Cowboy and Site of Suffering, starting on Tito's favorite day of the year. It's going to be awesome. H-burg even though it's not at Captain T's you've got to bring T to the show and make him do a stage dive. And we always love playing the Soapbox so we can make Ryan wash his pants. Columbia, save an armload of airplane bottles for us. Everybody, stay tuned for more studio news and a whole lot more tour announcements as things keep shaping up. Get Stoked!
Mike from DH on DISSONANCE harDCore community radio
Wednesday January 31st
Hey dudes, last night Mike Schleibaum was the interviewee / guest DJ on DC's local punk rock radio show, DISSONANCE. The complete broadcast is available as a podcast download on their website (http://dissonance.libsyn.com), or on iTunes (search for DISSONANCE). Mike answers questions about DH and the new record, and plays a bunch of killer tunes he thinks you all need to get into, not the crap he usually listens to in the van. So check it out and get into it.
New Record Update
Tuesday January 23rd
Hey Y'all all is good from the underground bunker where DH is riffing out our new songs. We have 9 songs (thats a full album dudes!) and we will definitely have a few extra tracks that will be floating around after the record is recorded to so we hope to have some special releases in the works as well. We are off in less then a month to start preproduction with Devin and we couldnt be more stoked with how the songs are coming out. Think more melodic, more extream, more insane, more circle pit, I mean just think more awesome man! Also our summer plans are in the works and we will be keeping you guys up to date as soon as we get an ok from the big man that we can announce that info!
Save DC All-Ages Shows!
Tuesday January 23rd
Attention all fellow DC/MD/VAers... You guys probably heard about the shooting at a bar on 9th St this weekend. Now DC Councilman Jim Grahm is trying to pass emergency legislation to ban minors from any club that serves alcohol (washington post article). Naturally this means no more all-ages shows in the city, and a serious blow to the music scene here. We just got this email today with contact info and suggestions on how to tell the DC government how you feel, and we wanted to pass it on to everyone. If you think all-ages shows are important, tell the council.
...
Following the murder of a 17-year-old in a club on 9th St NW this weekend City Council member Jim Graham will be proposing legislation to ban minors from entering nightclubs that serve alcohol. He says in an email to constituents (below) that he wants to introduce emergency legislation in the next week, which would require the consent of at least 7 of the 11 sitting councilmembers. It can be tough to round up that many votes, but since underage club patrons can't vote and many don't live in the District we should all let the City Council know this is a terrible idea.
There are at least three things you can do to this effect:
- Call/email Graham & the Council Chair Vincent Gray (who schedules votes) to voice your opposition
- Call/email Graham and his fellow committee members (in case the emergency legislation gets knocked back to the committee for markup)
- Call/email all Council members and tell them to vote against the upcoming emergency legislation: http://www.dccouncil.washington.dc.us/contact.html
If you live in Ward 1, note that in your call/email to Graham (south of Spring St NW, north of Florida Ave NW, east of Rock Creek Park and west of North Capitol St).
Example Call/Email Script:
"Hi. My name is (blank). I am a resident of Ward (X) [or a frequent patron of (blank) club/bar]. I am calling concerning Jim Graham's proposed legislation to ban minors from entering establishments that serve liquor. This bill will prevent already underserved young people from enjoying live music and dancing at clubs like the Florida Market Lounge and Black Cat that derive their revenue from alcohol sales. Underage music fans and alcohol have coexisted at these venues for decades. Banning young people will not prevent random acts of violence, but it will deprive them of a necessary and overwhelmingly safe space to congregate, connect and enjoy live music. Please tell the councilmember to vote against this unnecessary and harmful legislation. Thank you."

Saturday September 16th
Hey guys there seems to be some confusion so we wanted to make it clear that DH is NOT playing the Soilwork show at Jaxx in Springfield VA on October 5th.
UK Dates Announced
Thursday September 14th
OK it seems we spoke too soon. The Soilwork tour will be our last US tour for a while but we are also doing a short run in the UK before we hunker down and start writing again. We just couldn't get enough on Misery Signals so we're bringing them along with us plus our old friends Between the Buried and Me. The dates are on the tours page. So you guys across the pond, get ready to get brutal! Check out the video from our last London show at punkrockvids.com for a preview of the action.
Back from Tour Update
Thursday September 14th
Dudes we made it across Canada and back. It was an amazing time and we're stoked we finally got to do another full Canada tour. Props to our road dogs Tito, Johnny Knobs, and Terissa for getting us through, and thanks to our new friends in MS, VTM, and FASSW for rocking hard with us. Everyone PayPal a couple bucks to band@versusthemirror.net to help VTM recover from getting their trailer stolen. Thanks to everyone who set up a show, fed us, or gave us a place to stay. We owe you one.
US folks (plus Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City), come back and see us with Soilwork in October-November. This is going to be our last tour before we take a break to write a new record so come out and bring the mosh!
See you soon.
DH Archives Coming October 3rd
Monday September 4th
Our friends over at A-F Records are about to drop a serious dose of DH history on you guys with our Archives CD. The CD will include remastered versions of our first two EPs, The Misanthrope and The Prophecy, Fulfilled, plus two songs that only appeared on 7-inches until now and alternate versions of a few songs from Prophecy and Mark of the Judas. It's the complete pre-Judas history of DH, all remixed and remastered for posterity. It's been so long we're almost a completely different band, but we wanted to give you guys a chance to hear the progression that lead us here. We hope you like it. You can read a little more about it, including some stories from Mike in the announcement that went out on Blabbermouth.net. Enjoy!
Versus the Mirror Trailer Stolen
Wednesday August 30th
A few days ago, August 24th, some asshole stole Versus the Mirror's trailer, which means they've lost all their gear, all their merch, and all their clothes. For a band on tour, what's in the trailer is everything you've got and everything that's important. Loosing all of it at once is a tragedy. If any of you guys want to help VTM out, you can send them donations via PayPal at the address band@versusthemirror.net
Here's what the VTM guys wrote about it the day after it happened:
Terrible news, dudes. Our trailer was stolen last night in a small city called Merritt in BC. We have been on tour with Darkest Hour/Misery Signals/FASSW for three weeks now. Our van was having some problems so we stopped off in the city to get some work done. We were told the van couldn't fixed until the morning and we had to disconnect the trailer. I woke up at 9am to meet the mechanic and our trailer was gone. All of our equipment and all of our merchanise, along with luggage. In all honesty, this is the worst feeling I have ever felt. I started Versus The Mirror four years ago with our old drummer, Shane and old bassist, Cody. We started it out of the love of music. Never for money, fame, women, etc. Just a few friends playing music in Tucson, AZ. Within the last few years, Equal Vision has given us the opportunity to play music full time, travel everywhere and represent our friends and family through our music. We are very appreciative of everything that has ever been done for us and respect everybody we have came across. Every show to us, whether it was to a few kids or to a lot, we wanted to play. Nobody has ever forced us to play shows. We love music and we love performing. It didn't matter if you were into our music, we are down to have a conversation with anyone about anything.
Everything was in our trailer. Every piece of this band was in there. Everything that I own and that has made up my life over the last few years, is now gone. In the immortal words of Grade, "Where do you start when you are already in the middle of things?" I guess we will have to find out. Versus The Mirror is still alive. We will be jumping back on the Undoing Ruin tour as soon as our van gets repaired. Come to a show and talk to us.
Help them out: PayPal some cash to band@versusthemirror.net

Alaska Dates Confirmed and More

OK can we even begin to tell you how stoked we are to be playing Alaska for the first time? Also there's been a couple more changes to the tour including a change of venue in Wichita and shows in Harrisonburg and Lynchburg VA. Details as always are on the tours page. Last time we were at Captain T's, The Captain himself did a stage dive. What do you say H-burg? Can we top it? Let's do this.
This just in, new show in Kelowna, BC. Check it out!
DH Back from Tour Update
Thursday July 6th
Well dudes we finally made it back across the pond and stepped off the plane into the middle of a good old-fashioned DC heatwave. Thank you Europe for letting us forget what summer is like back home for a while. Thanks also for giving us such an amazing tour. Many thanks to Marco and Yvonne at Avocado for bringing the whole thing together and to Nicole at Trashmark for pulling the extra shirts we desperately needed out of seeming thin air. If any of you guys out there missed us on tour, make sure you check out our tourmates Cephalic Carnage and Dead to Fall because we can pretty much guarantee you're going to like them. Thank you Cephalic for sniffing out the gras every day and giving us the Snake Fang and the Walrus. And DTF, after 2 and 1/2 months, it's seriously going to be weird touring without you. Thanks also to the bands we got to know at the fests and shows we played together for making those long fest days more interesting, Most Precious Blood (Ryan's lip is going to be ok, don't worry), Ringworm (you showed us a thing or two about partying), Damnation a.d. (good to have you back), and Ignite (we're trying, man, we're trying).
And what end-of-tour post would be complete without shouting out to our loyal road dogs, Tito "Godfather" Picon (who managed to keep tabs on 17 hammered dudes for the whole tour without losing any of us), Johnny "The Knob Turner" Sterling (our own official representative of The South in Europe), Mike "Motherfucking Murphster" (for fearlessly handling unfamiliar currency and language barriers at the merch table), and of course our new best friend, Tom our bus driver (for putting up with all our shit, piloting that double-decker monstrosity like it was a Smart car, and for giving John Henry the moustache he always wanted). Thanks also to our old friends who came out to party with us, show us around, and boost morale (Thomas, Mayo, Rita, Zoli, Dave-O, Beecher, we're looking in your direction).
And last but not least thanks to all you guys who came out and partied with us. Thank you everyone who hung out with us, made us feel welcome, smoked us out, or tried to teach us German. Thank you everyone who came to the shows, circle-pitted, stage-dove, air-guitared, or generally rocked out. Without you guys, none of this would be worth it, or even possible. So you guys stay safe over there, enjoy the long days and the rest of the festival season, and we'll see you again next time. Peace out everybody.
DH is Going Up North
Thursday June 29th
It's official! DH is going north this summer for a full cross-Canada tour from Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island. The dates have finally been posted on the tours page, and we are starting to salivate with thoughts of poutine, Harvey's, and Alexander Keith's. Also, our dudes at Exclaim! have put together a DH prize pack you guys can enter to win on their website.
And for you guys on this side of the border, on our way back east we're going to be rolling along the north edge of the US, hitting a lot of places we haven't been in a while and some places we've never been before. So everyone check out the dates and come party with your dudes! And if you don't see your town on there, check back because we have some more dates in the works such as Toronto, Montreal, and maybe even a couple Alaska shows. PARTY!

Sound the Surrender Video Premiers this Weekend

Yo everybody we just got word that our video for "Sound the Surrender" is going to premier on Headbanger's Ball this Saturday. We're real proud of this one so all you headbangers make sure you tune in and check it out!
Back from Tour Update
Monday April 10th
Hey dudes out there we just got back from the sickest tour we have done yet, the ol' Undoing Ruin 2006! We want to thank all the bands that rocked with us, Himsa (Pettibone! and the Fucking Best Dudes Man!), A Life Once Lost (our favorite hippy metal band, about to crush Ozzfest this year, did we mention the riffs? whoa!), The Acacia Strain (the nicest guys in hardcore, don't let DL fool you he's a teddy bear), and of course Dead to Fall (see you in June bros!).
We also have to thank our road dogs Tito Picon, Johnny "Knobs" Sterling, and Mike "the Mother Fucking Murphster" Murphy, and the dudes back home making shit happen, Mike Mowery, Jeff Cohen, and Matt "It's Got to be the Shoes" Pike. And lastly all the dudes and dudettes who came out to the shows, because what the hell would we be doing if you guys didn't show up? On this tour we had a ton of good times and made some great new friends so really what more could we ask for? We got some pics up so check em out.
We'll see you west-coasters again soon at the California Metal and Hardcore Fest, but for now it's off to New Zealand and Australia, so get those AC/DC and Midnight Oil shirts ready for trading because we are a-coming! Check the tours page for those dates plus Mexico and Europe dates coming up. LET'S DO THIS!
DH visits Seymour Duncan
Monday March 20th
We recently had a day off in California and the dudes at Seymour Duncan invited us up to Santa Barbara to take a tour of their headquarters and see where they make their guitar pickups. The tour was amazing! Not only did our new friend Jessica take great care of us, but we even got to meet the big man himself. Now we're even more stoked to find out that our visit made their front page. Check out the pics at www.seymourduncan.com.
Darkest Hour Contest at streetwise.com
Saturday March 4th
Hey dudes, our friends at streetwise.com are putting on a DH contest where you can win a sweet DH souvenir pack including an Undoing Ruin Record and CD, both autographed by the dudes, plus a t-shirt and tour poster. Ryan's already entered to try to complete his t-shirt collection, so we need you guys to get in there and win it before he does, because that would just be weird. See you in the pit!
DH is going to Mexico
Saturday March 4th
It's official: DH will be going south of the border in May for our first ever shows in Mexico. It's going to be a short trip but we are super stoked to finally be visiting our neighbors to the south. So get ready Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. We'll see you soon!
More details on the tours page.
Announcing "Veritas, Aquietas" Dates
Monday February 20th
Greetings from the road! We are 4 shows into our US tour and we couldn't be more stoked. The bands are all rad, especially ALOL for helping us carry some of the crap that we can't fit in our trailer, Acacia Strain for letting DTF borrow their gear, DTF for still rocking after their trailer locked up and they had to leave their stuff at a truck stop in New Jersey, and Himsa for straight up kicking ass. Not to mention the shows have been awesome! We've seen some killer stage dives, tons of headbanging and partying down on the floor, and everyone seems to be taking care of each other, which is what we love to see, so give yourselves a hand.
Anyway let's get down to business. We mentioned earlier that we will be playing our instrumental "Veritas, Aquietas" in full at select dates. These are the dates that we're planning to pull it out at:
2/24 - Richmond VA
3/1 - Atlanta GA
3/6 - Houston TX
3/7 - San Antonio TX
3/9 - Tempe AZ
3/11 - Pomona CA
3/12 - West Hollywood CA
3/16 - San Francisco CA
3/22 - Denver CO
3/23 - Lawrence KS
3/25 - Chicago IL
3/29 - Pittsburg PA
4/1 - Washington DC
If your city isn't included here, we apologize. It's not you, it's us. The decision was totally based on which clubs have enough channels in their sound system to handle the extra instruments we have to bring in for the song. It's not personal. Check the tours page for details.
See you soon!
G'Day, Dudes! DH Goes down under!
Tuesday February 14th
Dude it's finally happening: At the end of April, DH is heading to the other side of the world for 9 shows in New Zealand and Australia. We are stoked with a capital STOKED. Aside from the fact that this is our first time ever in the southern hemisphere, JH is also stoked to sample some down-under brew besides Foster's. Paul can't wait to try shrimp from the barbie. And for Tito and Mike it's like visiting a musical Mecca to finally see the birthplace of two of their favorite bands: AC/DC and Midnight Oil.
So check the dates and come hang!
T-Shirt Contest Winner
Tuesday February 14th
Stay Vocal and Darkest Hour want to sincerely thank everyone for contributing such great designs. In one week, we received over 70 entries which is unbelievable for such a last minute announcement. Stay Vocal's art department and DH sent an incredible amount of emails back and forth trying to come to an agreement on the perfect design for this shirt. There was just too much good artwork, and since it was so tough to decide, we will be picking more winners for Stay Vocal / Darkest Hour items in the future. But for now, Marcail Madorum's "Money Runs Thicker" design will become the first t-shirt.

You will be able to find this shirt at almost all of DH's upcoming shows, as well as in Stay Vocal's web store.
Once again, thanks from everyone at STAY VOCAL and Darkest Hour.
Last Minute T-Shirt Design Contest
Tuesday January 31st
Well, it's official as of today: Darkest Hour is teaming up with STAY VOCAL (Skateboards + Apparel + Progress) to put on a contest to find a new t-shirt design for our upcoming tour. We are big fans of what Stay Vocal is doing, so we're stoked, the only thing is that the tour starts in just 2 1/2 weeks! So, we need the art like yesterday. We're looking to get any and all art submissions by February 6th. So now you know, when DH does some shit last minute, we do some shit LAST MINUTE. But enough about what slackers we are... here's the deal...
LET'S SEE WHAT YOU GOT
This is a contest, so this is your chance to design a DH shirt and see your design behind the merch table, on our web store, and covering the backs of metalheads all the way across the country.
PRIZES
If your design is chosen for the t-shirt, you will receive a Stay Vocal prize pack including:
- 1 Stay Vocal Deck of your choice
- 1 Stay Vocal T-Shirt of Your Choice
- 1 T-Shirt with your design on it
- 1 of each Stay Vocal patch, pin, sticker in our catalog
GUIDELINES
- The t-shirt design should be inspired by or related to our song "Marching To The Killing Rhythm", from Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation
- A permission form, giving all art rights to Stay Vocal, must be signed before prizes are received
- The deadline is Monday, February 6th
Like Stay Vocal's Wake Up Deck, words/phrases/lyrics are important for this shirt. Below are the lyrics to "Marching To The Killing Rhythm," which is a real "Stay Vocal" song for DH.
TO ENTER...
Save the art in either PSD or JPG format at 300 DPI (that's high-res people, unless you like your shirts pixelated), and email it to info@stayvocal.com. If the file is too big to send through email, find somewhere to post it online and email the link for where to download it. And remember, if it's not in by Feb 6th, we won't have time to print it before the tour, so you've got one week. LET'S DO THIS!
Thanks a lot everybody and we look forward to any and all entries.
Lyrics: Marching to the Killing Rythm
A grand deception
Disguised as god's redemption
Forcefed delusions of grandeur
Calling out for
A willing sacrifice
Of a nameless enemy
Necessary losses
Fulfill the bloodlust fantasy
See through this facade
Of retribution
This machine
Is marching to the killing rhythm
Spilling blood in veign
Subdues the vengeful masses
So put your blinders on
Replace your conscious with a flag
So you can forget
Money runs thicker than blood
Countdown Till Tour - Printable Flyers & Ecard Up
Tuesday January 31st
Tomorrow marks the start of February and the countdown till tour is on. Like we've said, this is our first headlining US tour since Undoing Ruin came out and since we're in charge we're doing it RIGHT!

UPDATE: Yo we've got a new Ecard to give you guys a preview of the brutality you're going to hear on this tour. After the intro it'll play a song for you from each of the bands that are going to be rocking with us, so if there's someone you haven't heard before this is an easy way to check them out. There's also links to plenty of info about the tour. Even Murphster is impressed with it, and he hates Flash, so check it out already and harrass your friends by sending them the link:
http://www.victoryrecords.com/ecards/undoingruintour/index.html
We heard there was a kid in St. Louis who sent it to 10 people and the hot metal chick at his school totally made out with him the next day! The dude that didn't? Bald. Seriously!
A Little T-Shirt Help From Our Friends
Sunday January 29th
Yo dudes just wanted to let you guys know about some rad dudes we've teamed up with for some of our merch. The good dudes at altamontrecords.com have been kind enough to help us put together a sick DH shirt for our upoming tour and we're stoked. They've got a ton of sweet retro shirts on their site and their ebay store, including an awesome Van Halen t-shirt that may look familiar in the coming months. Check em out.

DH gears up to film video for "Sound the Surrender"
Monday January 16th
Hey dudes Darkest Hour is all set to film a new music video early next month. We're headed to the depths of Virginia to film a video for the song "Sound the Surrender." It is set to be directed by Joseph Pattisall (Drowningman, J Paris). The dudes are stoked so we're planning to post some behind-the-scenes photos here once we get underway, and we'll be sure to tell you when to start looking out for it. So check back soon.
PS. Murphster wanted us to remind his fellow nerds out there that this news is also available as an RSS feed, so if you have an RSS reader you can keep tabs on DH without even thinking about it.
New Kris Norris Guitar Instruction DVD
Monday January 16th
Calling all shredders! Kris has finished up his 2nd guitar instruction DVD, which teaches guitar techniques using songs from Undoing Ruin as examples. The new and improved DVD is full of tons of new material, so if you already have the first one there's a lot more to learn, and if you don't have the first one that's cool too. You don't need it to get the full effect of the new one.
You can get more info, check out the trailer, and order the DVD from Kris's website: www.krisnorris.com
Pictures Finally Updated!
Monday January 16th
You thought it was never going to happen but we finally got Murphster to update the picture gallery. Ryan hooked him up with a ton of pictures from just about every tour from the last couple years, and now they're up for you guys to check out. There aren't many live shots since they're Ryan's pictures and it's really tough to snap photos and do diggita at the same time, but we've got plenty of pictures of dirty dudes, party dudes, lost dudes, passed out dudes, blown tires, stern warnings, broken feet, a couple awesome sights, and lots of great bros. It's a little slice of our life on the road. Enjoy.
New Merch Too
Monday January 9th
Yo we've also got some new shirt designs up at the merch store, including a couple non-black shirts for that rare breed of metalhead who actually wears colors. Check em out.

Monday January 9th
Happy New Year Dudes! There is a lot a brewing in the DH camp as of late so check it out...
First off, DH is stoked to announce that Revolver is going to sponsor our US headlining tour with Himsa, A Life Once Lost, Acacia Strain, and Dead to Fall. The tour is to go from February 17th to April 1st and we just posted a whole lot of new dates on the tours page so check them out and mark your calendars, because this is our headlining tour and we are going to BRING IT. You guys can expect an extensive set that includes many never-been-played (or haven't-been-played-in-a-hell-of-a-long-time) DH tunes. Also the plans have been sent into motion for DH to perform Veritas, Aquietas (the long instrumental from Hidden Hands) in its entirety at select dates on this tour. It's a monumental undertaking for the dudes but we're stoked and we're going for it.
In other news DH is heading into studio in January with our old friend Brian Mcternan to remix and remaster our first record on Victory: So Sedated, So Secure. The record will be rereleased in march with a new layout with liner notes from the band as well as some early DH photos. The rerelease will also include two cover songs: "Be forewarned" by one of the most influential doom bands ever, Virginia's own Pentagram, and "Go Back to the Gym" by one of our favorite DC hardcore bands, Battery. There will be a few more surprises too but we can't let everything out of the bag just yet. ...let's just say the record may include more bear hunting!
Lastly, Watch out for those who know the CAPTAIN IS COMING! (and we're not talking rum)

Undoing Ruin Out Now in Europe! + Contests!
Monday June 20th
OK DUDES WELL ITS TIME TO DO THIS! Undoing Ruin has been offically released in Europe today check out the record and if you love it buy it so we can keep playing and making rock happen! And if you're interested, here is what "professional" CD reviewers had to say:
Alternative Press: "Considering all of the hyperbolic marketing surrounding Darkest Hour's third Victory full-length, (e.g., "heavier than Slayer," "the best album since Slaughter Of The Soul"), most of us probably sort of wanted to hate Undoing Ruin. Well, good luck: Not only are these quotes true; they also don't even begin to do the album justice. Tenfold better than 2003's Hidden Hands Of A Sadist Nation, Undoing Ruin takes the band's black-metal/hardcore hybrid to stratospheric levels, combining melodic guitar gallops, punishing double-bass and sweep-picked shredding (check out the end section of "Sound The Surrender") in a way that isn't only unbelievably heavy, it's also unbelievably catchy. Oh, and regarding Devin Townsend's production: Slaughter Of The Soul sampled Pantera's bass drum- we're betting bands are going to be sampling Undoing Ruin a few years down the road. Sometimes, we love being wrong. 5 out of 5!!!
Big Cheese: Stunning technical carnage from Washington DC: 5 out of 5 !! 'Undoing Ruin' is a vital for Victory Records. Up against stunning new releases from Trivium, The Agony Scene and Avenged Sevenfold, the label need Washington DC boys Darkest Hour to deliver the goods. And boy, do they do that! 'Undoing Ruin' is a colossal album that really ups the ante on every level. While written to cause maximum technical metal carnage, 'Undoing Ruin' doles out tracks like 'This Will Outlive Us' sounding like pure Slayer. Listening to 'Undoing Ruin' it's no big surprise to find Canadian crackpot Devin Townsend involved somewhere in the process of this record. Handling production duties, all this living legend has done is add his magical touch to an already spellbinding piece of work. Essential!
Total Guitar UK: Recalling the halcyon days of And Justice . . . Metallica and Season's . . . Slayer, this metalcore quintet from Washington, DC offer up the kind of pure speed metal precision you expect from a band that has been sonically raping the US underground scene for 10 years!
Terrorizer: Darkest Hour seem to have rebelled against much of the mainstream bollocks they inevitably encountered and have created an album brimming with ideas and fantastic musicianship . . . At times, the production and driven thrash is reminiscent of the technical brilliance of Megadeth's "So Far So Good So What!" and if there is any justice in the world, this will garner similar reviews and success!: 8.5 our of 10!
Ok don't miss the DH contest at www.thedarkesthours.com. And US dudes make sure to look out for DH on the road and the new record starting next week!!
DH GEARS UP FOR SUMMER
Wednesday June 15th
So the tour's page is fully updated with all the dates DH will do this whole summer. Can't wait to see you guys out there. In other news Kris has completed the New "Undoing Ruin" guitar tab book so it will be for sale on the web soon and hopefully at all our record release shows. Make sure to pick up the latest copy of AP becuase there is a killer darkest hour contest with ESP, also next months AP will see a pretty sick feature on DH! The music video for Convalescence is in its final cut stages and we will be posting it online as soon as Tito, Mike Phyte and everyone else gives us the OK. Keep in mind it did almost get us put in jail and most of it was filmed while we had some fast talking ladies buy us some time with the cops. We'll have some news about the fall soon but make sure to come out and see us this summer.
MP3'S UP ON THE NET!
Friday May 27th
MP3's from Undoing Ruin are now available on the net. You can now hear "Sound the Surrender" either at here (where you can also enjoy :) the ecard) or at here Also "With A Thousand Words to Say But One..." is going to be up as an exclusive download on Pure Volume starting Monday. Darkest Hour encourages downloading music, in all forms. We believe it is the next wave of Radio. To quote our friends in Decahedron, "Kill your Radio!" We encourage people from everywhere to download and enjoy these songs. Music is art and it should be expressed freely. Please keep in mind that the quality of the music is definitely lowered in any MP3 format. All we ask is that people who enjoy our music support our band so we can continue to make music. We got into music to make art for people who enjoy it. So here it is a new sample of the record. We hope you enjoy we spent a lot of time making these songs and they mean a lot to us.

"Been in trouble with the law since the day they was born"
Thursday May 19th
Here is a little update about this week. Its just been a hell of a few days! Keep in mind that the Ecard and MP3's for the Undoing Ruin will be posted on May 27th. Although we know the shit is leaked so if your a dude with a computer go find that shit and Jam, we are stoked for you guys to hear a sample of the new songs anyway this is from a Victory Press Release:
"The dudes just can't stay out of trouble with the law. While doing a photo shoot and video shoot to prep their new record Darkest Hour had two run-ins with Johnny Law this week.
"Day 1- Washington, DC - where the band was taking band photos under a bridge. They were approached by four police cruisers and eight officers. The band was detained for over an hour and questioned repeatedly about their motives. In a time of mass hysteria, Darkest Hour is definitely not exempt. The officers thought that the photo shoot was a well designed plot for six terrorists to start planning an attack, on so-called 'soft targets' in the DC area and our rented van made them even more paranoid. Remember that the next time you have a break-down and need to rent a substitute vehicle, it's a 'suspicious move'! The band made it out with out being arrested or fined and the photos will now serve as a backdrop for the new record.
"Day 2 - Darkest Hour are in NYC filming a video for the song Convalescence, with Director Dale Restighini. The set was the outside of an old plastics factory in New Jersey where several tunnels converge. Fire, dirt, trash, and smoke set the scene - it was chaos, of course. It got so intense that some onlookers called the police. According to the officers they were in "sheer terror and disbelief" at what was going on. The fire, the smoke, and the fact that Heavy Metal was blasting was just too much; but the police were unable to shut down the shoot before the band could finish. The result is a metal as hell video that came complete with its own police escort."
Here is a surreptitious photo of the DC police action. Wish they were a little better but dude we were not even suposeed to take them or show them!
More Tour Dates / MP3s Soon.

Here is what guitarist Mike Schleibaum had to say about the new Jams:
"We are stoked to present these songs to you guys live and through your stereo. We have worked long and hard putting together this record and feel it will be well worth it for all you dudes out there. In a world where so much music is insincere and plastic we are proud to present songs that we put our hearts and souls into every part of. It is by far our most extreme, mature, punishing, and diverse material to date. This record is who we are and it has been a long time coming."

Tuesday March 29th
So another day closer to the end of the record and another day closer to the end of the world. DH's new record will no longer be called "TBA", "Untitled", "Dude We Don't Know Yet", "Dudes get Brutal", "Tito's is Mike DH's Favorite Dude in The World!", "Brian Mcternan is the Mr. Miyagi of Hardcore", "Devin Made Me Us Do", "Ryan Parrish is Hot!", or "Dudes Done Done Some Shit!" instead we have opted for a more simple title: "Undoing Ruin." In Case you can't read right below you it will hit stores June 28th! You have been warned.
In a related recording tragedy, we are sorry to announce that Shaun Thingvold who is mixing the record has been hospitalized for injuries received doing back up vocals on the new DH record. Studio Update
Friday March 25th
Lots of news happening in DH world right now. We have begun mixing the record and should be ending our session in Vancouver on April 2nd. We cant wait to get these songs out there. Chris Taylor (aka Chris crude of Pg. 99 fame) will be handling the artwork for the new record. He and our good friend over at Victory have been hashing out the art and we should be able to post the record cover sometime in the next week or so. The record is slated to come out June 28th, so get stoked! Mike "the Mother Fucking" Murphster (of DH merch fame) has begun a website redesign for us. I guess we can see what the hell his 4 years of college was for.
www.militaryfreezone.com You Got to Check this out!
Wednesday March 23rd
Yo dudes! Our good friends over at the Anti-Flag, A-F Records camp have started a new website. www.militaryfreezone.com. Its really awsome and is packed with some valuable info about how public school records can be used by the US Military. Here is what Justin from Anti-Flag has to say about it:
"Ending militarism around the world starts with ending militarism at home. We encourage students in this country one by one to OPT OUT of the recruitment process and to speak out against the misleading recruitment tactics of the US military."
- - Justin Sane, singer of the band Anti-Flag.
And here is what our very own Mike Schleibaum has to say about it:
"Websites and projects like military free zone are vital in helping to build a unified front against the war machine our country has become. We encourage students to OPT OUT of the recruitment process. We also encourage everyone to stay as informed as possible. The 2004 election was a huge blow to many of us. When the combination of religion and greed seems to be to much for reason it is important to remember that the fight to make the US a place where real democracy exists is an EVERY DAY battle that is in our hands."
- - Mike Schleibaum, shredder in the band Darkest Hour.
Like our good Friend Alex says "Stay Vocal!"

Basic Tracking Done on New Record!
Tuesday March 15th
DH has been buried in the studio for about two weeks now and we have gotten a hell of a lot done. All the basic structures for the songs are complete. There are now 9 songs on the record and 1 acoustic piece. And we can say already this is hands down the best darkest hour record ever. We cant wait to present these songs to you guys. Kris and Mike make their guitar solo debut, there is definitely more for the shredders this time. Expect shorter more thrash' compact songs, as well as some surprises. We have been keeping the Album title under warps but we will announce it soon. Lastly, the DH summer vacation is coming together so we will announce big plans for the summer as well as the release date for the new DH record soon. This week JH starts tracking the vocals and it all starts to make sense!
DVD Reviews!
Wednesday March 2nd
Everyone crack open a cold one! Ryan has completed his drum tracks for the new album tentivly titled "Double Double with Dev. Dawg!" Actually we have a few other awesome titles for example: "Dudes get Brutal," or Dudes Done Done Some Shit!" If you have album ideas that don't have the word dude in them, put dude in them and email them to tito at tito@darkesthour.cc. Because we haven't named that shit yet. Also Devin is completely wasted off of Tim Horton's coffee and a special mix of cannabis donuts! That's the secret to his success. We are starting guitars tonight so T-minus 20 days before John Henry does anything! PS. Also Send Tito money so he can come up and hang with the dudes!
Studio Update!
Tuesday March 1st
Wanna see what dudes are saying about the DH DVD here ya go:
"Party Scars is essentially thrash metal's answer to those Indiana Jones movies: Watch Darkest Hour clash with crooked cops, killer spiders and, worst of all, Ozzfest, to bring the rock-and debauchery-to the tattooed masses. We're not worthy!" - Alternative Press
"I'm happy to announce that I really, really like this band after enjoying the Party Scars... DVD. They come across as honest, talented, and even somewhat unique, at least as far as the personalities in the band are concerned. More a docu-drama than a live footage overload, this Darkest Hour film (if you will) carries on in the fine tradition of some of the better DVDs in recent memory..." - flexyourhead.net
NEW SHOWS UP!
Tuesday March 1st
Welp! Day 1 of the studio. Got some killer drum sounds. It took a long time to get most of it up and running but we are super stoked. The Drums sound a lot like the Metallica Black record or something like that. Really real sounding but also big and tight. We can tell you this will definitely be the best sounding DH record ever! Kris spent a lot of the day working out his solos. That's right guitar solos and they are going to rip on this record, but right now its all about the drums. Devin is the man and it is only going to get crazier. He has been working ryan hard and is definitely going to be pushing him the whole recording. Tomorrow drums rock on! Also check out the shows page we added a few dates in April including the Metal Fest in New England.
Any of you guys seen "Some Kind of Monster"?
Saturday February 26th
Yesterday we had a band meeting to watch the Metallica "Some Kind of Monster" movie. Basically it is a testament of what not to do in the studio. For those of you who saw it you know what we mean. We had the first jam sesh with Devin to work on click tracks (that's technical shit dudes) and we are stoked with how things are progressing out here. Paul and Mike have been trying to beat the Play Station "The Guy Game" if you know any secrets email us!
Made it to Canada!
Friday February 25th
Oh shit! One early morning ride in ice to the airport, mid day clash with Canadian Mounties (Paul made it in by his chinny chin chin), and an evening dinner with Devin and we are in Canada. Its awsome weather here and we started some work on the basic drum tracks/set up. Mike's guitar head, pedals, and other important shit got accidentally sent to Fiji, hope to get it back soon so mike can play on the record too. If you know anyone at Air Canada tell them dudes need their gear!
DH Heads to Vancouver, BC!
Thursday February 24th
So we are off to Vancouver to start pre-production . We will be there for about 5 days before hitting the stuido. We can't tell you how excited we are, its been almost 2 years since we went to Sweden and we can't wait to get into the studio. Our good friend, the Mr. Miyagi of Hardcore, Brian Mcternan and the band he is recording (Scary Kids, Scaring Kids - who by the way Mike beat the hell out of in Dance Dance Revolution the other night) were good enough to let John Henry demo some vocals tuesday night (along with providing him with some beer!) and we are really excited about how they came out. We cant wait to get Devin in the mix and get insane. What can we tell you right now? Well, tentatively we have 9 songs and one acoustic instrumental piece. There will definitely be some surprises but also plenty of classic DH riff rock and thrash'n. The idea we have for this record is very different then other DH records. We have written the songs in such away that they flow together and without giving to much away I can say that there will be some definite Pink Floyd influence in how the record flows. If you live in Vancouver , BC and want to hang out, party you can email us at mike@darkesthour.cc. We will definitely want to get out on the town and eat at Tim Horton's. Also killer thanks to the dudes at Krank and ESP for giving us some killer shit to rock in the studio. We'll write more soon.
